Site updates

Over time I may decide to remove some pages previously linked to here; they will be enclosed in <del></del> HTML tags.

2026

30/1/2026

Added a Site directory page.

16/1/2026

Moved most of my personal files to a renamed subdirectory, personal/.

2025

15/10/2025

I am grieving the loss of my father, who passed away from an intracerebral hemorrhage on Saturday 4/10.

Have done some rearranging of the pages about myself, so there may be some missing links and photos until I rectify these.

22/1/2025

Computers & I updated.

2024

27/10/2024

No major website updates; real life (as in increasingly becoming an exhausted carer for my elderly parents) is sapping what little energy I have. I still enjoy tinkering with my site, though; I guess it is a hobby for me! I have lost interest in a lot of former enthusiasms; I am no longer interested in spaceflight so my RuSpace subsite is now frozen. I have not felt any desire to do any creative work for a few years.

2023

7/10/2023

Added a sporadically-updated Dream Diary to my Journal section.

29/9/2023

Book reviews (links to relevant Journal entries) for Kalani Pickhart, Brad Thor.

25/9/2023

Consolidated some pages in my Creative section (Art, Poetry, Schoolwork, Vignettes) onto one page.

24/9/2023

Added some previously-deleted personal pages to sections of Life miscellany.

29/5/2023

Re-added “Computers and I” to my Profile page Note: now moved to Hobbies.

22/4/2023

Removed some personal pages. I am most active in my Journal and RuSpace sub-sites.

2022

5/5/2022

A brief book review added: Omon Ra.

2021

20/10/2021

Small updates to the Vignettes page.

5/8/2021

17/6/2021

A letter published!

2020

12/11/2020

Another attempt at a page reduction and purge.

4/11/2020

A letter published!

30/9/2020

After a lot of tedious RegEx search-and-replacing, my main Journal is one year to a page! Some of the pages are quite long, but 17 pages (and counting) are more manually manageable than 184 (and counting)! As I am unlikely to live a hundred and more years, the yearly pages will not reach the number of the monthly ones :-). (Xenu’s Link Sleuth has been a Godsend when checking for hundreds of broken internal links! I think virtually all are corrected now.)

27/9/2020

All my static HTML backup pages for my Blogger blogs (none of which are now active) are now a year to a page, rather than a month – a very tiring task, involving a lot of use of Regular Expressions to alter hundreds of internal anchor links! I am now planning to similarly merge my main Journal a year to a page rather than monthly, as the number of pages is getting large; this will be a big task though (thousands of internal anchor links! 2028 to be exact, after a quick search), so I will see if I can manage it.

13/9/2020

No new pages; just saying that I am still here; my site is still alive but I have been doing little due to the usual mental health issues (anhedonia, fatigue) and the prolonged and excessively strict COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne is not helping my mood (as it is with many people here). I did renew my domain name, and have been doing a little site maintenance. I moved my Creative section into its own subfolder and will see how I feel about that. Each subfolder is now color-coded with my favorite colors (main: purple; RuSpace: blue; Journal: pink; Blogger: orange; Creative: green); I just like being co-ordinated!

11/6/2020

Bicycles section updated with details of my first serious accident :-(.

4/5/2020

Cashless concerns opinion page added.

1/4/2020

Well, after all that, I ended up re-adding the deleted pages after all! I am still active on this site – my main hobby-though it may not appear so. I tweak or alter here and there when I have some mental energy (in short supply for me). The stress over the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is not helping.

17/3/2020

I am “Konmariing” my site at the moment to reflect my changed interests, so quite a few pages may disappear (links to such below will be removed).

2019

8/10/2019

New section added: Children of Time.

31/10/2019

Links page updated with a few links to short stories that I like.

Two more book reviews added (The Tiger’s Daughter and Mischling).

11/1/2018

Bushido exhibition 2014 photo section added.

2017

10/12/2017

New vignette added.

11/3/2017

5/3/2017

25/2/2017

27/8/2016

More added to “Art” page (mostly older work).

16/8/2016

Data storage formats” added.

17/3/2016

Web design” added.

28/1/2016

6/1/2016

General “Links” page added.

2015

29/12/2015

Favorite plants” section added.

28/6/2015

Additions to “Site Information” page; some thoughts on maintaining my site and static sites vs. CMS-generated ones. (Note: now on “Web design” page.)

25/5/2015

Site gallery” section added.

16/2/2015

Animals” added to “Opinions” page.

23/1/2015

Decided to reinstate my Updates page! I used to have one but stopped doing it a few years ago, unfortunately. I will look through my Journal and retrospectively add some previous updates.

I am experimenting with changing the navigation locations somewhat around my site; the main navigation is now in the header of my sub-sites also, and “breadcrumb links” are at the bottom of every page.

14/1/2015

Overpopulation page added to, and some small updates to About me.

2014

27/9/2014

My site now has a rudimentary search ability (on the main Home page), as I found a CGI script in a zipped archived version of my site I had kept. It only shows pages, not the actual words searched for, but it is something! I also reinstated my Sergei Krikalyov Russian cosmonaut site (accessed via RuSpace → Cosmonauts), though it is mostly archival now since he retired in 2009 and I don’t have much interest in updating it.

11/9/2014

I decided to go back to my static HTML blog after all (though I could change my mind again!). The Dokuwiki version takes up over 40 MB, while this one is just under 8 MB. I just wish I could edit it online, but there seems to be no way to.

6/7/2014

I put my RuSpace site online again, after being offline since May; I think I will leave it up for personal history reasons even if I don’t update it much. Quite a lot of pages need updating and rewriting, though, which is a daunting task.

16/6/2014

It is done, finally! All 112 pages of my journal converted by hand to Dokuwiki markup, so I am now writing in real time for this entry. An unbelievably tedious and mentally tiring chore. There are still some bugs to work out and I will have to see how things go with this format (main disadvantage is I need online hosting to use it – there are no free Dokuwiki hosts to my knowledge, so if my hosting here is ended I’ll be stuck). I don’t think Dokuwiki is quite intended to be used like this (i.e. as semi-static webpages), but it’s convenient for me at the moment. I can also edit pages live online, which I can’t do with static HTML pages that I have to edit locally then upload.

28/5/2014

I am considering changing this journal to a Dokuwiki format, but that entails copying 100+ pages – 1 month to a page – converting them to Dokuwiki syntax and creating a new page for each month, so this will probably take a few weeks! The result won’t be too much different to the current format, but does have search and tag options.

8/5/2014

I deleted my RuSpace (Russian spaceflight) site as I have lost interest in it and no longer wish to maintain it. My interest is now focused on science fiction and worldbuilding.

2013

25/8/2013

My website is now hosted on a new server location, so I’ll have to see how things work out.

13/8/2013

My site hosting has possibly had a reprieve, so it may not shut down after all – not quite sure of what’s happening yet.

9/8/2013

My web host informed me that he is unable to do site hosting anymore due to health issues, so my site here will disappear next week. My domain name still has a couple of years until expiry, but I am unable to afford web hosting so it’s back to free websites, I guess. I am grateful for the years being hosted, but unfortunately it couldn’t last forever.

2012

4/10/2012

I have been wondering what my website looks like on a mobile phone/smartphone so I made a few minor tweaks to the way some images were laid out. It doesn’t look too bad, if the Responsinator test site is anything to go by. I don’t own a mobile as I simply could not afford one, or afford one of the expensive plans available here.

10/8/2012

I was looking at upgrading my site to HTML5 specifications, but the new tags that can be used are still inconsistently displayed by browsers, and not at all by older ones, so I just changed the markup in the header for now. My site now has around 350 or so pages, so any major changes are a chore! My site’s appearance could also do with a makeover, but I am creatively dead as to ideas – I want to keep it simple, not over-elaborate like some I see.

2010

16/1/2010

I decided to rename my “Kosmonavtka” sub-site to “RuSpace” (Russian Spaceflight) which is easier to say and remember. I wish I had not chosen the Kosmonavtka name – it makes no sense (it means “lady cosmonaut,” «Космонавтка») and sounds weird – but was stuck for a name at the time, and happened to see it in a book. Thankfully I did not choose it for my main site URL (it was an option I considered).

2009

1/11/2009

After 5 months (!) and much dithering, this journal is back again (rather like I deleted my website two years ago); I just feel attached to it. I will perhaps reserve the Blogger version for more focused entries (I am still keeping the Russian spaceflight and overpopulation topic blogs there).

2007

10/3/2007

Had a major fit of depression last week and deleted my whole site … but am feeling somewhat better and put it back again. The journal is back to being “Kosmoblog,” and there are a lot of pages to reorganize and redo (as usual), and maybe some broken links. I am still not happy with it but I am totally lacking in any inspiration for a different design or look. Also the space sites seem to be the only thing I have some sort of Internet recognition for, so I guess I should leave them up. I am still undecided whether to make the main page a portal and put my personal stuff back into the “Rusalka” subsite (I can’t think up another name for it), or not.

25/2/2007

I am thinking of deleting my MKS/International Space Station website (again!) as I am just tired of it, I want to “downsize” my site and the interest I had, has faded (I felt most enthusiastic between 2001-2003 but since then this has dwindled). I am really rather tired of the space program in general, and spaceflight as depicted in science fiction and fantasy only exacerbates this. The real-world program seems to be going nowhere slowly.

I might move my journal to the top level of my site (i.e. link from the navigation menu there) and not call it “Kosmoblog” any more as it sounds stupid. I will keep/continue the journal for now as I need somewhere to grumble about things!

I added a page about my favorite villains to the top level of my site; I just wrote it today. Rather enjoyed doing it!

2006

16/11/2006

I decided to remove all journal entries/pages before November 2004. I have checked for broken internal links to those pages; there might be some I have missed! I doubt anyone reads them, anyway.

8/10/2006

I am thinking my site needs a redesign of some sort; I am rather tired of it. Perhaps something a lot plainer, removing the decorative images and headers, as it is rather cumbersome to maintain. There are nearly 400 pages and a lot of text and information. I am stuck for inspiration, though.

1/6/2006

I decided to reinstate the MKS (International Space Station) site again … the Kosmonavtka site is getting too big with it. I also changed a whole lot of file names, so more broken links for the search engines … *Sigh*

26/3/2006

I deleted the MKS site and it is now back inside Kosmonavtka. (Linking to any pages in my site is dangerous, as I tend to keep changing URLs; I can’t decide on what to name some pages!)

2005

8/9/2005

My SuzyMcHale.com website is officially open! I posted notices on all my Geocities sites and sent out e-mails. I will have to try to find all the people who linked to me and inform them of the new address. For the moment I have kept all the sites’ structures intact, so the site is four-sites-in-one. I rather wish now I had kept everything on the one site, but I would have long since outgrown one Geocities account (15 MB).

I want to add a guestbook and a counter, though the latter is hard to find. There seem to be plenty of free counters available, but how do I know which one is good? FrontPage has its own counter and guestbook, but I don’t wish to use these as they utilize the proprietary “FrontPage Extensions,” which a server has to have installed as they won’t work otherwise.

Kosmonavtka updates page

An updates page from my old Geocities site, as preserved at the Archive.org site (images were not included) – and a local copy if the offsite one is unavailable.
