Suzy McHale’s Journal 👩🏼💻
Journal author, 21 April 2025
This subsite contains my personal journal. Here I write mainly about my interests and opinions on various subjects.
This is a static HTML journal – not a content-managed blog – so (with apologies) there are no features such as comments or tags. Thus it is more like reading a paper-written/analog journal. Posts are one year to a page. I have found this to be the most manageable format for me (some year pages get quite large, though, so I have given the page sizes in kilobytes). In this I am following point 3 (“Prefer one page over several”) of Jeff Huang’s This Page is Designed to Last website philosophy.
Many external links in the posts will inevitably (and frustratingly) vanish and thus be broken (“link rot”) as time passes. You can try copying and pasting a broken URL to the Internet Archive website, which may have archived a copy.
Dates are in day/month/year format, and I am in the Australian Eastern Standard Time zone (UTC +10 hours; +11 hours Daylight Savings Time – in the state of Victoria, the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April).
If you want to link to an entry, click on the corresponding link to that entry in the Table of Contents at the top of each page to bookmark the link.
All years
Blog, journal, diary? They are all methods of recording one’s thoughts and tasks, but the definitions vary! For me:
- Blog
- An online personal chronicle written in specialized database software (Blogger, Wordpress, etc.), with entries listed in reverse order – latest at the top.
- Journal
- A record of one’s thoughts, opinions and personal life.
- Diary
- A listing of tasks to complete each day. (Note that I have used “Diary” to refer to my previously offline Journals in the Personal folder to differentiate them from the Journal here.)
